Riverdale duplex fire displaces two residents -- Gazette.Net


A fire in a Riverdale duplex Friday night displaced an adult and a child and caused “extensive damage,” according to a the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.

Firefighters responded around 9:30 p.m. to the fire in the 6000 block of Longfellow Street, which spread from the second floor of the two-story duplex to the attic before it was extinguished, according to a release.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, and one firefighter sustained some minor burns and was treated and released from a burn unit.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $100,000, the release said. The displaced residents are getting assistance from the County Citizen Services Unit.
