Appeal Elementary School fourth grader Michael Peterson was presented with an award Jan. 14 after being selected as the Southern Maryland winner in the Bowie Baysox Read and Hit a Home Run Reading Program poster design contest. The poster designed by Michael will be distributed to every participating school in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties to encourage kids to read four books and get a free ticket to SOMD Reading Night with the Baysox either April 13 or 14. Michael received eight tickets to one of the reading night games, where he will get to throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game.
