Laurence A. Watson Jr., 84, of Prince Frederick died Jan. 4, 2013.

He was born Nov. 13, 1928, to Laurence Sr. and Venus Watson of Washington, D.C.

He was a lifelong resident of Hyattsville, where he served as a member of the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War until being discharged in 1953. After leaving the Navy, he became a type setter for the Washington Star. When the Star closed, he went to work for The Washington Times until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Watson.

He is survived by his nieces, Diane and her husband, Conole Shirley, and Denise and her husband, Conole Collins.

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department.
