Panther hitting camp

The Panther hitting camp will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout January at the Patuxent baseball Building located next to the Patuxent High baseball field.

The cost is $60 and checks can be mailed to Patuxent High School, 12485 Southern Connector Blvd., Lusby, MD., 20657.

Sessions are open to players 8 to 14 and space is limited to 12 players in each session. Players will receive emails indicating which session they are in.

CBAC registration

Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club will hold registrations for lessons and pre-team classes from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Jan. 16 and 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center’s aquatics center at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City.

Lessons and pre-team classes will be held Jan. 21 to Feb. 13.

Erica Weems Alumni basketball

The sixth annual Erica Weems Scholarship Fund Alumni basketball will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Huntingtown High School.

Games will feature men’s and women’s players from the 1970s through 2000s.The cost is $5.

Blue Crabs meeting

Charles County Commissioner Ken Robinson (D) invites residents to join him at 11 a.m. Feb. 9, at the Regency Furniture Stadium Legends Club at 11765 St. Linus Drive in Waldorf.

The meeting will include special guest, Andy Etchebarren, a former Baltimore Orioles all-star catcher. Etchebarren is an executive with Opening Day Partners, owners of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team. Etchebarren is seeking community input on all concerns regarding Blue Crabs baseball and the team’s relationship with the community.

There will be no formal agenda and refreshments will be provided. Reservations are not required. Robinson will have the meeting videotaped for online viewing.

Rage lax clinic

The Chesapeake Rage lacrosse academy will hold an offensive skills clinic from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at the Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf.

The clinic is open to middle school and high school players and the cost is $30. The clinic will be run by current high school coaches, former and current NCAA college players. Players are asked to bring their own gear, including reversible jersey and indoor tennis shoes.

Soccer training

Gretton Goalkeeping will hold weekly outdoor and indoor soccer training sessions for all ages and skill levels.

Indoor sessions will take place at the Windy Hill Elementary School through the week of Feb. 25. Outdoor sessions will be at various fields in the county. Reservations are required.

Alumni football

Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games this spring.Players are needed to sign up and the first 40 players on each team get to play. The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home field advantage.

Teams from Patuxent as well as other area teams are forming now. Gridiron Alumni is targeting more of the biggest rivalries in the nation for its Gridiron Alumni Rivalry Series.

The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Officials wanted

The Southern Maryland branch of the Washington Area Lacrosse Officials Association is seeking new officials to officiate boys youth games this spring.

Mandatory training sessions to become a certified US Lacrosse Level 1 boys lacrosse official will be conducted in January and February.

Officials must be at least 16 and must submit a written recommendation from their current high school coach if attending high school. All new officials must be US Lacrosse members or join US Lacrosse in order to take the certification class.

Game fees for youth games range from $45 to $60 per game. Prior lacrosse playing experience is highly desirable.

Officials wanted

The Calvert County Officials Association is seeking new and experienced baseball and/or softball umpires to join its organization for the 2013 season.

All umpires must be 16 years or older. CCOA will conduct rules clinics and training sessions on proper field mechanics prior to the beginning of the spring season. Umpires must provide their own protective equipment and appropriate uniforms.

All umpires for the 2013 season are required to demonstrate proficiency in rules and regulations by passing a written examination.
