Charles County Circuit Court and Clerk’s Office will be closed Jan. 21 in observance of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

Charles County government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed Jan. 21 to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day. VanGO will operate on a reduced holiday schedule. Call 301-934-9305. All senior centers and community centers will be closed. The Crain Memorial Welcome Center, the county landfill and recycling center off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will operate normal hours. Every-other-week curbside recycling “blue bin” collection service will not be affected. Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center and Port Tobacco Recreation Center will operate normal hours. Tuesday, Jan. 22

Charles County commissioners will hold a public forum at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at the county government building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Sign-in will begin at 5 p.m. outside the commissioners’ meeting room. Forums are open to the general public. Individuals are free to speak about any topic affecting county residents. Special guest will be Andy Etchebarren, a former Baltimore Oriole all-star catcher. Etchebarren is seeking community input on all concerns regarding Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball and the team’s relationship with the community. All county issues will be open for discussion.
