Scott R. Salemme is the new regional CEO of the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region, effective Jan. 28.
Salemme brings 24 years of Red Cross experience to his new post.
Since 2002, Salemme has served as the regional CEO of the American Red Cross of the Columbia Region in Columbia, S.C. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring comprehensive disaster planning, preparedness and response for the region’s six Red Cross chapters, serving 28 counties in South Carolina.
Salemme’s duties also included providing services to the armed forces and lifesaving training in the form of first aid and CPR, water safety and youth programming.
Salemme led a paid and volunteer staff of more than 1,000 people.
“We are very excited to have Scott Salemme accept the leadership role for the Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region. Scott has demonstrated his commitment to his constituents, his community and the American Red Cross. We are confident that his strong leadership will continue and enhance the region’s impact on our clients, partners and our paid and volunteer staff,” Bonnie Stein, board chairwoman of the Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region, said in a news release.
Salemme started his American Red Cross career as the assistant executive director of the Jamestown, N.Y., chapter.
After three years in that role, he became the executive director of the Erie, Pa., chapter and then the executive director of the South Bend, Ind., chapter before moving on to South Carolina.
