University of Maryland senior Tianna Hawkins, a Riverdale Baptist graduate, was named to the John R. Wooden Midseason Top 20 List, released Tuesday. Hawkins earned a spot on that prestigious list through averaging 18.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this winter to lead the Terrapins to a 15-3 overall mark and a 6-1 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference through Wednesday.
The Wooden Award All-America Team, consisting of the nation’s top five players, is scheduled to be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year is scheduled to be announced on April 12 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club as part of the 37th annual Wooden Award Gala.
Hawkins led the Terrapins in scoring nine times this season, including a season-high 33 points during the team’s 88-45 win against Loyola Nov. 11. She amassed 26 points in a recent 82-62 drubbing of North Carolina State. Hawkins also had the most rebounds on the team on nine different occasions, including 17 against North Carolina State.
