Area homeschooled children are invited to attend a special hands-on learning experience at Bowie’s Belair Mansion.
The mansion, at 12207 Tulip Grove Drive, dates back to 1745 and will host Home School Day at 9 a.m. on Feb. 14. The three-hour event is for children between the ages of five and 11 and will allow them to able learn more about the 18th century, said Pam Williams, the city of Bowie’s historic properties manager, in a statement.
This year’s event, which is geared towards homeschooled children, is the first of its kind for the mansion, Williams said.
“They’re a specific group we’re reaching out to,” she said.“Home school parents bring their kids here for tours all the time but we don’t have specific [and] structured hands-on activity for them.”
Children will be able to try churning butter and doing period dances while learning about what life would be like in an 18th century plantation and classroom, Williams said in a statement.
Those wishing to attend the three-hour event are asked to RSVP by Feb. 12 and should call the museum office at 301-809-3089 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
