The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting and suicide in Waldorf on Tuesday night.

Police responded to the 3100 block of Heartleaf Lane in Waldorf at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday after sonmeone reported a shooting. When sheriff’s officers arrived, they found a man and woman, both possibly in their 60s, inside a house, police said.

The man was flown to a hospital in critical condition, and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Diane Richardson, it appears the woman shot the man and then shot herself.

A motive is not clear at this point, Richardson said.

The investigation is ongoing and names of the victims have not been released at this time.
