Charles Leroy Thorne II, 89, Waldorf
Charles Leroy Thorne II, 89, of Waldorf died Jan. 12, 2013, at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown.
Born March 29, 1923, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles L. Thorne I and the late Agnes Houlihan Thorne.
Mr. Thorne served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the European Campaign in World War II. When he left the service, he began a 53-year career as a machinist at the Library of Congress working for the Architect of the Capitol. He retired in 2009. He liked to shoot pool.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Thorne; son, Frank Thorne; and sister, Norma McDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen B. Thorne; sons, Charles L. III, Joe and Steven Thorne; daughter, Mary Ann Brewer; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Service will be private.
