Cecelia Lillian Queen Young, 69, of Malcolm
Cecelia Lillian Queen Young, 69, of Malcolm died Jan. 24, 2013, at home.
Known as Miss or Aunt Ceil to many, she was born June 24, 1943, in McConchie, daughter of the late John William “Willie” Queen and the late Susie Savoy Queen.
She attended Charles County public schools. One of her greatest memories was receiving perfect attendance certificates during the years she walked to school. She married Wilbert “Leroy” Young in August 1961. They had four children. She was a domestic engineer. She was the neighborhood babysitter. She enjoyed taking care of children and treated them as if they were her own. She loved family gatherings, especially with her sisters, playing cards and eating milk and cornbread. She also spent time traveling to Las Vegas, Florida, Williamsburg, Va., the Bahamas and Dover, Del.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Wilberta, Annie, Louise, John, Catherine and Isadora; and youngest daughter, Melissa.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert “Leroy;” children, Kenny and his wife Vera Michelle, Cyndee and her husband Phillip and Tim and his wife Jill; sisters, Naomi, Dollie, Pauline, Delores and June; brothers-in-law, Reginald “Lebo,” Billy, Tommy, Eddie and Joe; sisters-in-law, Patricia, Doreen and Joyce; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; friends, Esther and Florence; friends who were like her own children, Joyce and Robert Lee; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Feb. 1 at Thornton Funeral Home, Pomonkey. Burial will take place at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Cemetery, McConchie.
