The ownership group of Loudoun Professional Soccer, LLC, is gearing up to unveil the brand name of the new professional soccer franchise coming to Northern Virginia. The organization will be holding a team unveiling party Feb. 6 at Bungalow Lakehouse in Sterling, Va., where fans will gather at 3:30 p.m. to watch the U.S. Men’s National Team take on Honduras in a World Cup Qualifier before hearing the announcement about their newest local soccer team at 5:45 p.m.

After beginning talks with the North American Soccer League (NASL) 18 months ago, Director of Soccer Operations Mark Simpson and fellow team organizers were granted official recognition from the league on Nov. 1 of last year. Their Northern Virginia team will fit into the NASL’s expansion in the spring of 2014, when franchises from Ottawa and Indianapolis will enter the 12-team league along with it. The NASL - which omprises teams from the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico - was founded in 2009 and is a step below Major League Soccer (MLS).

Simpson’s team is partnering with the Loudoun Hounds, a baseball team that will enter the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball in the spring of 2014. Both teams will play at One Loudoun, a new ball park in Ashburn, Va.

Although they’ll play out of Ashburn, organizers insist that their new soccer team will represent people all over Virginia, particularly neighbors in Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington.

“We’ve had a tremendous response, both from the soccer purists out there as well as the soccer families and the casual fans,” said David D’Onofrio, the team’s Director of Communications. “We believe that Northern Virginia is a great untapped market. I think the ball park at OneLoudoun in Ashburn is going to be a great place for fans across Northern Virginia to come and gather.”

Voting for the team name is ongoing until Feb. 4. Fans can log onto www.naslvirginia.com or www.facebook.com/naslvirginia to choose between the Cavalry, Stallions or Dominion.
