Downed wires were the cause of a snarled commute through Darnestown today.

A pole fell near Darnestown and Turkey Foot roads, according to Montgomery County Fire officials, who warned that the area would experience significant delays and that motorists should avoid the area.

Police received a call at around 6:30 a.m. for a personal injury collision, according to Montgomery County Spokeswoman Angela Cruz. They responded and closed Darnestown Road between Turkey Foot and Seneca roads. Details about how the pole fell, how many people were involved in the collision and if there were any injuries were not immediately available.

Police were still on the scene shortly before 10 a.m., she said.
