A man who was found dead Monday from a gunshot wound at a Hillcrest Heights park has been identified.

Salaam Adams, of the 1800 block of Guess Road in Durham, N.C., was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in Oxon Run Park, near the Hillcrest Heights Community Center, according to Prince George’s County police.

At about 7:25 a.m. Monday, Maryland-National Capital Park Police officers responded to a call for a “man down” in the 2600 block of Oxon Run Drive, according to county police.

Adams died at the scene, police said.

While Maryland-National Capital Park Police were the first responders, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s homicide unit has since taken over the investigation, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman.

Potential suspects have not yet been identified, according to county police.

A phone number for Adams’ residence could not be located.
