A Waldorf man has been charged with driving under the influence after he was ejected from his SUV in a single-vehicle accident Jan. 30 on Bensville Road in Bensville, the Maryland State Police La Plata barrack reported.
Eric Anthony Counts, 40, was taken by ambulance to the shock trauma unit at Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly and listed in stable condition with head and internal injuries that were called serious but not life-threatening.
Troopers arrived at the accident scene at 10:47 p.m. and determined Counts had been speeding in his black 2001 Ford Expedition on the road, which was wet with rain, near its intersection with Captain Dement Road.
Counts lost control, went off the road, hit a tree stump and was ejected, police reported. The SUV continued moving, overturned and came to rest against a tree. Counts was not wearing his seatbelt.
The investigating trooper determined that Counts had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, police reported.
