Charles County police are investigating a series of thefts that occurred in the parking lot of the Waldorf Fitness Center, in which wallets, credit cards, purses and a GPS system were stolen from three cars between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5.

In one of the cases, the thief tried to use one of the stolen credit cards to buy more than $5,000 in merchandise at Best Buy.

Investigators have released a surveillance photo of the suspect and are hoping to hear from anyone who knows his identity.

Anyone with information should call the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS.

Officer E. Baker is investigating.

The sheriff’s office encouraged residents to never leave valuables in a car. Officers have made arrests in similar cases, and the suspects often admit to targeting gym parking lots because people tend to leave their wallets and purses in their cars during their workouts.
