The Southern Maryland Civil War Roundtable will feature a presentation by College of Southern Maryland President Brad Gottfried on Abraham Lincoln as commander-in-chief during its February meeting.

The presentation will be at 7 p.m., Feb. 12 at CSM’s Center for Business and Industry, Chaney Enterprises Conference Room BI-113, at 8730 Mitchell Road in La Plata.

As president, Lincoln took an active role in directing the war effort.

In the presentation, Gottfried, who is president of the SMCWR, will cover a variety of topics, including Lincoln’s approach as commander-in-chief, his successes and failures, and how his personality helped win the war for the Union.

In addition to serving as CSM’s fourth president, Gottfried is a noted Civil War historian, having written nine books about the Civil War.
