The Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its former trustees, Sheryl Jones Alu, who served on the CMH Foundation board from 2001 through 2006. She died in a car accident Jan. 15.

During her tenure, Ms. Jones Alu served one term as foundation treasurer and four years as president of the CMH Foundation board. As a longtime supporter, she made many contributions to the hospital, including serving as president during the foundation’s most ambitious capital campaign that raised more than $3 million for the largest expansion in CMH history. The project included a greatly expanded Emergency Department, a new Critical Care Unit and a concourse dedicated to outpatient services.

Her leadership and stewardship during this time was vital to the foundation achieving its fundraising goals. A dedicated trustee, Ms. Jones Alu believed in the importance of equipping Calvert Memorial Hospital with the latest medical technology to meet the needs of a growing community.

We mourn the loss and honor the memory of our friend. Her unwavering generosity and passionate commitment will be much missed. She will always be remembered by the CMH family with gratitude and appreciation.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Sheryl Jones Alu Memorial Fund, c/o Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2127, Prince Frederick, MD 20678; or contributions can be made online at www.calverthospital.org.
