I do agree that the death penalty is vengeful to the utmost degree. But it is legal and has been practiced for thousands of years.
The Bible calls for the death penalty for many things, including adultery, blasphemy, disobedience to parents etc. However, the difficulty is not whether it’s a moral or humane question or if it is a benefit to society. The problem is that death is final.
When an unsaved person is executed, he is dead and has no chance of ever gaining access to heaven. If he is incarcerated instead of being executed, he has an opportunity to attend Bible studies and come to a saving knowledge of God through Christ.
