Verbena May Jost Grinder, 87, Waldorf
Verbena May Jost Grinder, 87, of Waldorf, formerly of Indian Head, died Feb. 11, 2013.
She was born April 9, 1925, in Wahpeton, N.D.
She was known to friends as “Benie.” She worked for the Army Transportation Corps in Washington, D.C., from July 1944 until May 1949. In 1948, she married Francis Grinder. She had been a resident of Morningside Assisted Living in Waldorf since 2001. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and counted cross-stitch. She was an avid reader and had a passion for solving crossword puzzles. During the time she resided at Morningside, she loved to play bingo.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, who died in 2001, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice Jost; brothers, Roy, Donald and Ralph Jost; and sisters, Thelma Jost and Florence Jost Stephens.
She is survived by her daughter, Constance “Connie” Grinder Howell; son-in-law, David Howell; son, David Grinder; daughter-in-law, Deborah Grinder; grandchildren, Amy Howell Bailey, Carrie Howell McElhaney, Jonathan Drew Grinder and Lauren Grinder; and great-grandchildren, Colin Bailey, Dylan Bailey and Elise McElhaney.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head.
Guests are asked to join the family for a light lunch immediately following at the Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department.
