A collision between a school bus and two other vehicles sent one woman to the hospital and closed a portion of Whittier Boulevard in Bethesda this afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a multi-vehicle collision just after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of River Road and Whittier Boulevard, said Beth Anne Nesselt, spokeswoman for MCFRS.

Emergency response personnel extricated one of the drivers from her vehicle and transported her to a local hospital in serious but stable condition, Nesselt said.

Another driver was transported to the hospital for a checkup. The school bus driver was evaluated on the scene and did not require any medical treatment, Nesselt said. The school bus was not carrying students at the time of the collision, she said, and was believed to be on its way to Walt Whitman High School.

MCFRS personnel had the scene cleared around 2:50 p.m., Nesselt said. It was not immediately clear Wednesday afternoon whether the accident was still causing traffic problems.
