I am a Boy Scout from Troop 429. I would like to ask you to help me bring this issue to the public. I live 1 mile from the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department. There is a siren in Dunkirk that is no longer needed with technology like cellphones and pagers. This alarm is very disturbing to everyone who is within earshot. The siren is very loud and annoying. I heard that the Prince Frederick siren was shut down because a hotel was built next door. When firefighters were asked about the siren, they said that the siren helps clear the intersection and calls any firefighters back to the firehouse. I feel that all the firefighters have cellphones and pagers and the people at the intersection don’t pay attention to the siren other than to roll up their windows. I think that the firehouse in Dunkirk should join the 21st century and shut off its siren.
