Karen Marie Marcey, 56, of North Beach died Feb. 8, 2013, at the Burnett-Calvert Hospice House in Prince Frederick.

She was born June 21, 1956, in Arlington, Va., to Richard Calvin Marcey and Anne Souder.

She was raised and graduated from Wakefield High School in Virginia. She graduated from Averett College in Danville, Va., as an honor student in 1991. She later continued her education at Georgetown and George Washington universities. She was employed as a financial officer with SAIC, retiring in 2003. She was very active in the community and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader as well as in many other community endeavors.

She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Michael Patrick Marcey.

She is survived by her mother, Anne Souder of Prince Frederick; siblings, Sue White and her husband, Tom, of Northfield, Vt., Richard C. Marcey Jr. and his wife, Karen, of North Beach and Robert S. Marcey of Rocky Mount, Va.; sister-in-law, Marjorie Marcey of North Beach; nephews, Joey and Scotty Downing and Phillip Marcey; and niece, Gretchen Marcey.

Family and friends will be received at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Rausch Funeral Home in Owings, where a memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will be private.
