Gaithersburg police are asking the public to help identify a man who committed an attempted robbery and sex assault in an apartment on Clopper Road.

The incident took place on Feb. 11 at 10:50 p.m., according to a news release from Gaithersburg police. The female victim was walking up the stairs to her third-floor apartment on the 900 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg when a man approached from behind and asked her for the time.

The victim attempted to back down the stairs, but as she was walking away, the intruder pushed her against the wall and touched her inappropriately, the release said. As the victim got away and called for help, the intruder attempted to take her purse.
