A Temple Hills man tripped over a curb and injured his leg Sunday afternoon after dropping a purse he had stolen from a car in the parking lot of the Capital Club House in the 3000 block of Waldorf Market Place in Waldorf, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Officers were dispatched to the community center at 4:40 p.m.

Witnesses said they saw a man break out a car window and steal a purse that was in plain view inside the vehicle.

One witness chased the thief, who dropped the purse and ran toward the woods but tripped over a curb and injured his leg.

The man, 36, was taken to a hospital. He will be charged with theft and destruction of property.

Officer D. Proctor is investigating.
