Pizza shop, Blue Crabs helps Higdon DI team raise funds
Pizza Hotline and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are helping the Destination Imagination team at Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School raise funds for the Wayside Food Bank as part of the Higdon Hunger Stoppers’ community outreach project. The pizza shop will donate 10 percent of sales from 2 to 10 p.m. Feb. 25 to the food pantry. The students also will donate their portion from the DI team’s ticket sales to the April 28 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs games. Call the school in Newburg at 301-934-4091.
Credit union teams with ball club for reading program
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the Educational Systems Federal Credit Union are partnering to bring the Pinch Onto Books reading program to area school systems. More than 100 schools have signed up for the program, which asks students to read four books outside of their normal in-class curriculum. Once four books have been read, each child records the name of each book on special bookmarks provided by the Blue Crabs, earning them a free field box seat to the Blue Crabs Reading Program Night on April 26.
