Gertrude Rosa “Gerti” Meck, 87, of Clinton died Feb. 10, 2013, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Born Oct. 26, 1925, in Vienna, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Anna Molcik.

She came to New York in December 1951 as Mrs. William Meck. There she started a family and became a proud American citizen. She enjoyed driving in race car rallies, cooking, gardening, ceramics and time at the yacht club aboard the DeeDee Bird. She spent many years as a seamstress before dedicating 17 years as a loving volunteer at the American Red Cross, where she welcomed home wounded warriors from Desert Storm.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Henry Meck Jr. of Clinton; her children, William Henry Meck III of Mechanicsville, Patricia M. Herrell (Roger) of Mechanicsville and Alida M. Meck of Knightsen, Calif.; and her granddaughter, Crystal Marie.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, where a memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. The Rev. James Chance will officiate. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
