Editor’s note: Stone is scheduled to compete in the Class 3A-2A-1A East Region championships at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.
Both the boys and girls did great in the SMAC meet this past Saturday.
SMAC is always a very competitive meet but also fun because most people have swam before with other swimmers on other teams.
The meet started great with our girls medley relay placing third overall, with our fastest time of the entire season. Our relay is now only two seconds off of the school record, which we are all hoping to break by the end of the season.
Our girls team only had eight girls in the meet and placed fifth overall, which is great compared to the size of some of the other teams. The boys placed eighth overall. There were 13 teams total.
We were able to beat several of the teams we lost to during regular season meets. Everyone was very pleased with the results, as we ended up with a lot of individual medals and ribbons and a lot of people dropped time.
Our next challenge will be this Saturday at the regional meet. We are hoping to do just as well as we did in the SMAC meet. Our team is continuing to work hard and prepare for this.
Just like at SMAC, there are only two people per event for each team. We have to make sure that we all swim our best because you have to qualify for states from the regional meet.
No one is guaranteed to go to states, so this meet is very important for everyone. We are working toward states to be our final meet of the season.
