Prince George’s County Police have arrested a Washington, D.C., man in connection with a break-in at an off-duty Alexandria, Va., Sheriff’s deputy’s home in Fort Washington.

Brian Keith Whitaker, 23, of Butler Street in Southeast Washington was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree breaking and entering and related charges, police said in a news release.

As of Saturday, Whitaker was still held at the County Correctional Center on a $73,500 bond.

Around 10:49 p.m. Feb. 12, police responded to the 8400 block of Rose Marie Drive for the report of a shooting. Once there, police found a man dead outside the residence.

Police said an investigation revealed that the homeowner, a deputy sheriff for the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, came home and discovered a burglary in progress.

The homeowner then fatally shot one suspect, who police identified as 20-year-old Jon Adgrain Pocknett of Indian Head.

During the course of the investigation, police said detectives learned that a handgun had been stolen during the burglary. The handgun has been recovered.

No attorney information was listed as of Saturday morning in online court records. Whitaker is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on March 12.
