The letter to the editor, “Letter was ‘self-serving’” [Maryland Independent, Jan. 30] regarding a previously printed letter, “Country has rejected Christianity,” states “The [Democratic] party does not endorse abortions or being gay, but it does endorse a person’s right to make those decisions. After all, it was God who gave us free will etc.”

According to the Bible, being gay is a sin, and it appears that the Democratic party is endorsing a person’s decision to sin as a right. So even if sin is legalized on earth, sin is still sin in God’s sight; and in the MacArthur Study Bible, you will find that “sin should be repented of, mourned over, hated, abhorred, put away, departed from, avoided even in appearance, guarded against, confessed as sin, and turned from. Everyone should pray to God to keep us from, to deliver us from, to cleanse us from, and to forgive our sin. Preachers should pray for forgiveness of sin, testify against sin, try to turn people from sin, and warn people to forsake and repent of, and sin no more. Sin is the abominable thing that God hates. Sin brings down national judgments by God, and sin is exemplified in Sodom and Gomorrah.”

This makes me wonder if some of those people living in Sodom and Gomorrah, those cities that God destroyed, were not actually participating in being gay but were just endorsing a person’s right to make that decision.

The letter also says, “True Christians would not try to add to the discord between political parties; instead, they would pray for peace and harmony.” In the New King James version Bible, the Lord Jesus said, “Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.”
