Officers are looking for a man who beat up a teenager and stole his tennis shoes at the VanGO bus stop on the corner of Marshall Corner Road and Tempo Place in Pomfret at 4:39 p.m. Feb. 20, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim, a 17-year-old Brandywine boy, got off the bus and was confronted by the suspect, described as a dark-complexioned black man with a full, dark beard, about 6 feet tall and weighing between 170 and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue and white hooded sweatshirt over a gray hooded sweatshirt.
The robber began talking to the boy and demanded his shoes. When the teen refused, the suspect began beating him.
The boy tried to run away, but the assault continued. The teen eventually took off his shoes and gave them to the suspect, who ran with them down Great Oaks Place.
Someone who was driving by stopped his vehicle and chased after the robber, who dropped the teen’s shoes but got away.
The boy was taken to Civista Medical Center in La Plata and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
