I’m writing to thank Congressman Steny Hoyer for his efforts to replace automatic spending cuts known as sequestration that will go into effect if Congress doesn’t take action by March 1.
The sequester, which would drastically cut both defense and nondefense spending, would harm our economy and our nation’s defense — including military installations like Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head here in Charles County.
Indian Head employs thousands of Maryland residents and serves a critical mission, leading the Defense Department in the energetics field. We can’t afford these irrational cuts, and I’m pleased Congressman Hoyer is doing what he can to prevent them from impacting our economy, local jobs and investments in our future. We need more people in Congress like him who are willing to work across the aisle to put in place a long-term, comprehensive deficit reduction plan that will turn off the sequester.
I am so thankful for our congressman’s leadership on this issue.
