A Feb. 8 letter to the editor [“Stage is set for unwanted growth in Chesapeake Beach,” The Calvert Recorder] claimed Chesapeake Beach has been set up for massive and unwanted growth by its mayor and town council.
The angry writer presented no evidence to back up his assertions, particularly the claim that Councilman Bob Carpenter accepted large amounts of campaign monies from “big money.” Furthermore, the “big money” names were not identified.
I have no crystal ball to predict future events, nor do I have the ability to read men’s minds and their intents. But one thing I do know for sure is that Bob Carpenter paid for his own campaign expenses. And sharing the costs of a mailing permit is just a wise expenditure of funds.
Perhaps the letter writer is not aware of an old proverb that provides some food for thought: “Don’t measure your neighbor’s honesty by your own.”
