The last week of the swimming season is always bittersweet.
Our team has improved so much this year, and we are both so proud of everyone. There are so many memories from this season [that] we don’t think we can remember them all.
Being a part of this team is very special, as our swim team really is a family. The entire team is very close, and we all pushed each other to our potential.
Most of all, we have to thank coach [Patrick] O’Leary and coach [Melissa] Snyder for their dedication to the team. Our coaches have supported us no matter what, and most of all, they believed in us. Through their guidance, we had a successful season.
Thomas Stone had a great meet at states. Our medley relay dropped two seconds from last week and came in 11th place overall. We didn’t break the school record like we hoped, but luckily, with our entire relay being juniors, we have the entire season next year to achieve this goal.
Ironically, both of us earned 16th place in our individual races — Amber in backstroke and Taylor in breaststroke — and we both swam our best times for the entire season. The team had several other great finishes from our teammates, as well. It was exciting to end the season with our fastest times at the last meet of the year.
It is hard to believe the season is over, but all of our hard work really paid off. Many of our goals that we wanted to accomplish this season have been achieved.
Everyone has high expectations for next year. We know that our team has great potential, but it will definitely be different without our seniors.
Even though we may be a small team, our support from our family members and volunteers at the meets has helped us along the way.
We would like to thank Mr. AJ Mason and the Maryland Independent for giving us the opportunity to share our weekly athlete diaries. Both of us have really enjoyed being able to do this.
This season has been a journey, but no matter what, we have great teammates to support us. It’s sad knowing that we do not have any more meets this year, but we will be back next year ready to start the season again.
Until next time.
