Silver Stars tryouts

Tryouts for the Pax River Silver Stars basketball team will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 14 at Patuxent High School in Lusby and from 2 to 4 p.m. March 16 at the Margaret Brent Recreation Center in Helen. Coaches needed

The Mechanicsville Youth Lacrosse Club is looking for coaches for their boys youth lacrosse teams for the spring season.

The players are 5 to 14. Practice starts early March and the season ends late May. Practices are held at Chaptico Park and home games are at Fifth District Park behind Lettie Dent Elementary School.

Pax River Raiders

The Pax River Raiders Youth Football League will hold its spring tackle fundamentals program beginning March 20.

The program is offered for those players/parents who are interested in tackle football without the fall season commitment. This 10-week program will be on Sundays and Wednesdays March 20 to May 26.

Calverton Soccer Academy

The Calverton Soccer Academy will hold a spring break soccer skills and competition camp from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 25 to 29 and April 1 to 5 at The Calverton School in Huntingtown. Spring Break trainings are structured to give one hour of technical and agility work followed by one hour of game play. Spartans need players

The Charles County Spartans, a 12-U travel baseball tournament team, will hold tryouts through the winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Players cannot turn 13 years old by May 1, 2013. For more information, call Tad Waters at 301-247-7441.

Du The Point duathlon

St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s bike shop and cross country program will hold the first annual Du the Point duathlon at 8 a.m. March 30.

The duathlon will be a 5K run through Historic St. Mary’s City, followed by a 35K bike ride to Point Lookout State Park and back. Participants can opt to run and ride, just run or just ride.

Online registration is open through March 28 at www.bikereg.com/net/18347. Proceeds will benefiit St. Mary’s County’s Christmas in April.

A tennis festival designed to get children active and excited about tennis will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30 at Leonard Hall Recreation Center in Leonardtown.

Walk, Run & Roll

Bay Community Support Services, a full-service agency that provides quality support services for people with disabilities in Maryland, will hold its first annual Walk, Run & Roll at 8 a.m. April 27, rain or shine, in St. Mary’s City.

The cost is $25. Children 12 and younger are free.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the old statehouse. Participants may register online at www.baycss.org/walk.html and save $5 off the cost. Those who register before April 6 will receive a free event T-shirt.

An Over-50 independent men’s slowpitch softball league, now in its 10th season, invites players to participate. Games are played on Thursday evenings from May through August at Laurel Grove and St. Clement Shores parks.

This is a four-team league with team assignments by random selection.

Alumni football

Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games this spring.Players are needed to sign up and the first 40 players on each team get to play. The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home field advantage.

Teams from Leonard Hall Home School Eagles, Patuxent, Chopticon, St. Mary’s Ryken as well as other area teams are forming now.

Gridiron Alumni is targeting more of the biggest rivalries in the nation for its Gridiron Alumni Rivalry Series.
