At 12:45 p.m. March 6, officers responded to the 4900 block of Cordova Court in Waldorf after a resident called to report a suspicious person walking around the back yards of several neighbors’ homes, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The man was peering in windows and checking the locks on the doors. He also looked underneath a doormat at one house, possibly in an effort to locate a key.

Officers arrived and saw footprints in the snow in several of the spaces between homes but did not find any evidence of a break-in.

Officers surrounded the area and, at one point, spotted the man in the distance, but he got away.

The suspect is described as a black man with a heavy build in his mid-30s, wearing a large black coat with fur trim on the hood, blue cargo-style pants and white tennis shoes.

Pfc. R. Bagley is investigating.
