A 61-year-old Chesapeake Beach man was killed and another man was seriously injured in a head-on collision Saturday morning on Route 260.
At 5:44 a.m. Saturday, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Anne Arundel County Police Department officers responded to a car accident on Route 260 near Sansbury Road in Anne Arundel County, according to a press release from Anne Arundel Police.
Police found a Ford Taurus and a Ford Expedition, both with “heavy front end damage,” in the westbound lanes, the press release states. The Expedition was on its side and was on fire, police said, and members of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Police said the Ford Taurus, driven by Ronald Lignelli, 61, of Chesapeake Beach, was traveling east on Route 260 when it crossed the double yellow lines into the path of the Ford Expedition, driven by Andrew Mackall, 33, of Owings. The vehicles collided head on and came to rest in the westbound lanes near the shoulder.
Lignelli was pronounced dead at the scene, the press release states.
Police said Mackall was pulled from his vehicle by bystanders prior to the vehicle catching fire, was taken to Prince George’s Trauma Center with serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.
Anne Arundel police are continuing the investigation, and it is unknown if excessive speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
