Dunkirk Baptist Church will present a special worship service celebrating 20 years of public ministry, “Forever Faithful: God’s Faithfulness — The Journey,” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 17. The church’s founding pastor, the Rev. Dr. Dennis Felder, will be our special guest preacher, and the Dunkirk Baptist Church Praise Team will lead us in worship and celebration. Please join us in sharing the message of God’s forever faithfulness over the last 20 years at the church and always. We want to share this inspirational celebration and milestone with everyone in our community.

As Southern Maryland grew, so did the need for a vibrant southern baptist church in Dunkirk. On Jan. 25, 1993, the Potomac Baptist Association voted unanimously to fund the mission effort and to call the Rev. Dennis Felder to establish this new work. On March 21, 1993, Dunkirk Baptist Church held its first worship service at Northern High School. In September 1996, the church purchased 16 acres in Dunkirk and broke ground in May 1998 for our first building. Volunteers from Alabama, neighboring churches and the church family provided much of the labor for the construction project. On Sunday, March 7, 1999, Dunkirk Baptist Church opened the doors for its first worship service in its new home.

Since then, we have experienced tremendous growth physically and spiritually. God has enabled and equipped His people to strengthen and encourage one another within the church while reaching out to others in the community. Dunkirk Baptist Church continues to serve the Lord, minister to the surrounding community and meet the needs of others as we continue to grow.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary as a church body, we want to reflect on the past and those who have shaped our future. As we move forward together, bound together by the spirit of the Lord and charged with sharing His message with our fellow man, we ask for His continued blessing and guidance, today and in all the days to come.

Dunkirk Baptist Church enjoys hosting many free annual community events, such as Easter EGGstravaganza, Father’s Day Car Show, Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat, Safe Nights shelter nights as well as local and international mission trips.

We are blessed with a worship center that seats 400 and a fellowship hall that seats 100. Therefore, we host many local, large funerals, weddings and non-profit community events. Our desire is to make a positive difference in the lives of those living in our area without any expectation of financial return. This month, we will begin renovations to our DBConnect Building, enhancing youth activities, Bible studies, AWANA and other fellowship/service outreaches. We have many active ministries keeping our church active with weekly or monthly fellowship and Bible study opportunities.

Dunkirk Baptist Church is a Christ-centered “church of friends.” We invite you to worship with us, attend a Bible study and join us in serving, caring and sharing God’s love with everyone the Lord puts in our path.

Our monthly events include: Praise-N-Thunder, a Washington, D.C., homeless outreach held the first Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.; the Senior Fellowship and Luncheon held the first Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m.; and the Men’s Breakfast held the third Saturday of the month at 8 a.m. with local mission projects to follow. Our weekly events include: Sunday school and adult Bible classes at 9:15 a.m. Sundays; Children’s Church and worship in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. Sundays; AWANA children’s programs at 5:30 p.m. Sundays held September through June; Parenting & Marriage Enrichment Group at 6 p.m. Sundays; Ladies Bible Studies held Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings; and Youth Group, a prayer and Bible study, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
