A 55-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a Montgomery County school bus Thursday morning.

Police identified the man as George Pezdirtz III, 55, of the 900 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg.

Pezdirtz, who died of his injuries at the scene of the accident, was attempting to cross Clopper Road at Firstfield Road in Gaithersburg about 6:26 a.m., according to Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Rebecca Innocenti.

Pezdirtz was not in a crosswalk, Innocenti said.

The driver was identified in a police statement as Telma Elizabeth Ramirez, 57, of the 19200 block of Hempstone Avenue in Poolesville.

Ramirez was the only occupant on the school bus at the time of the accident and stayed on the scene after the man was hit, according to the statement.

Police reconstruction units were on the scene.

Clopper Road has since reopened after being closed earlier for the investigation.
