A crash involving a fuel tanker shut down U.S. 301 in Waldorf for a little more than two hours Thursday night.
Maryland State Police reported that at 6:27 p.m. March 28, a passenger vehicle driven by Aaron Michael Butler, 21, was headed south on 301 at Vernon Road when it hit the back of a fuel tanker, causing the vehicle to go underneath the tanker.
The Maryland Department of Environment hazmat unit determined the tanker was not leaking and it was safe to remove the car without further damaging the tanker. The tanker was moved to a vacant parking lot, where it was inspected by MSP’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Division, which reported it safe to drive.
The driver of the tanker, George Nathanial Dorsey Sr., 61, was not injured. Butler was transported to Civista Medical Center in La Plata with minor injuries, police said.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of 301 were closed for two and a half hours during the incident.
