Two people are in serious condition after their van struck a tree in Bethesda on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., a van heading south on Connecticut Avenue near Saul Road left the roadway and struck a tree in the median, according to a news release from the Montgomery County Police Department.

The two people in the van were taken to a hospital. The driver, Dawa Tamang, 39, of Rockville sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. However, the passenger, Lok Katwal, 31, also of Rockville, had life-threatening injuries.

As of noon Wednesday, both were still in the hospital serious condition, police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said.

Police are investigating why the vehicle ran off the road. Any witnesses are asked to call police at 240-773-6620.
