Prince George’s County police said the death of a man discovered inside his Brandywine home with signs of blunt force trauma to his body Sunday has now been ruled a homicide.

Alphonso Ray Drew, 55, of the 12900 block of Cherry Tree Crossing Road in Brandywine was found dead around 5:30 p.m. when county police went to investigate after someone called requesting a check on Drew’s welfare, said Julie Parker, a Prince George’s police spokeswoman.

Once there, officers pronounced him dead on the scene from blunt force trauma.

Parker said Drew’s sister was the one who discovered him unresponsive Sunday and immediately called police.

“Right now, police are trying to verify a motive and identify possible suspects,” Park said.

Those with information on the killing are asked to contact the police department’s homicide unit at 301-772-4925 or Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS to remain anonymous.

A telephone number for Drew’s residence could not be located.
