Police continue to investigate an accident in Wheaton Thursday morning, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Mary Josephine Fish, 52, was walking on the median of Veirs Mill Road near Georgia Avenue when a van hit her, according to a Montgomery County police statement.

Investigators said a white 1998 Honda Accord and a white 2012 Nissan van were traveling southbound on Veirs Mill Road.

The driver of the Honda made an unsafe lane change from the middle lane to the left lane and struck the Nissan, which was traveling in the left lane, according to a police statement. The impact of the collision propelled the Nissan up onto the curb of the roadway, where it struck Fish, who was on the median, the statement said.

Rescue personnel took Fish, of Cordwall Drive in Beltsville, to Suburban Hospital. She died on Friday.

Police identified Felicitas Cayo Carpio, 37, of University Boulevard East, in Silver Spring, as the driver of the Honda. Eric Seeling, 26, of the N. Woods Trail in Hampstead, Maryland, was the driver of the Nissan, according to the statement.

Neither was injured in the collision.

Police spokesperson Angela Cruz said that any charges would come at the end of the investigation, which could take up to two months.

Fish’s relatives could not be reached for comment.
