A Prince Frederick man was killed after he was involved in a Saturday afternoon car accident in Lusby, and the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick barrack is investigating.

At 4:29 p.m. Saturday, troopers responded to the area of Route 4 and Nursery Road for a reported car accident, according to an MSP press release.

Troopers said a 2007 Ford F-550 truck, driven by Kenneth Vance Klingensmith Jr., 48, of Pasadena was traveling north on Route 4 in the left lane when the truck “veered across” the right lane and collided with a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was stopped at the Nursery Road stop sign.

After striking the Chrysler, driven by Michael J. Funchion, 63, of Prince Frederick, the Ford continued off of the road and hit a light pole and a tree, the press release states.

Funchion died as a result of his injuries, troopers said. Troopers do not believe alcohol or drugs are contributing factors in the accident.

The St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.

Tfc. Wiesemann is continuing the investigation.
