A St. Mary’s court commissioner ordered Friday that a Lexington Park teenager be held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bond on a charge of first-degree assault, obtained by law officers investigating a baseball bat attack that put a man in a hospital, in critical condition.

Nicholas Kelson, the 18-year-old suspect in the case, was taken into custody during a police raid, St. Mary’s detectives reported midday Friday.

On Thursday, detectives report, law officers responding to a call of a fight on Valley Estates Drive in Lexington Park found an unresponsive 37-year-old man with blunt-force injuries to his head, and a Maryland State Police helicopter crew flew him to a trauma center to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Kelson lives at the street where police found the injured man, according to online court records.
