A Calvert County woman wanted for missing court on a St. Mary’s traffic citation was arrested last Thursday as she left a hospital, court papers state, by law officers who searched her belongings and charged her with seven misdemeanor drug offenses.

Melissa Anne Ridgell, 33, of Lusby eventually was released Friday from St. Mary’s jail on personal recognizance to await a hearing on the charges of illegally possessing oxycodone hydrochloride, three forms of alprazolam and drug paraphernalia items including two syringes, a metal tablespoon and a cut plastic straw.

Ridgell was being discharged Thursday from MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown when police arrived and arrested her for missing court on a November 2012 charge of driving with a suspended license, according to online court records and a statement of probable cause filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy Timothy Snyder. Ridgell denied owning the two syringes found in her purse, court papers state, and she continually drifted off to sleep while being booked at the county jail.
