The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday afternoon collision between a medic unit and a passenger car that resulted in one man's death.
Sheriff Mike Evans (R) said that a Calvert Advanced Life Support medic unit was traveling south on Route 4 responding “with lights and sirens on” to a call in Prince Frederick. When the medic unit was approaching the intersection at Sixes Road, a passenger car pulled out across the highway to travel north on Route 4, Evans said. The medic unit hit the passenger car, he said.
The passenger car driver, who Evans said was an adult male, was killed. The medic unit driver, a female, was taken to a hospital. Evans said she is in “satisfactory” condition at this time with non-lifethreatening injuries.
A Nixle alert was sent out at 4:33 p.m. Monday stating that both the north and south lanes of Route 4 were shut down due to the accident. An alert stating that the road was open was sent out at 8:45 p.m.
The investigation is continuing.
