St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies report that they arrested a teenager Monday after a nearly five-hour standoff that morning at a Hollywood area home, where they responded to a reported disturbance allegedly involving someone having marijuana and a handgun.
Andrew R. Maier, 19, of California’s Wildewood community, was released on personal recognizance by a court commissioner by midday Monday to await a court hearing on misdemeanor charges including the possession of marijuana, the possession of drug paraphernalia and illegally having a handgun.
Police arriving at the Hollywood home at 2:48 a.m. that day observed an attempt to barricade a garage door and prevent entry to the residence, St. Mary’s detectives report, and three people coming out of the house through another door were detained but not charged.
Police could get no response from someone still inside the home, even after deploying a non-lethal chemical into the residence, according to detectives. Emergency Services Team members went in at 7:32 a.m. that day and took Maier into custody, and a senior investigator described the seized weapon as a loaded .32-caliber pistol.
