Heavy rains to continue throughout afternoon
Charles County is under a flash flood watch until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
According to data from the National Weather Service, the watch was issued at 12:53 p.m. and will extend into the early evening hours. Calvert County also is affected.
Heavy rains will continue to fall throughout the afternoon and into the night, according to the NWS. If these rains become heavy enough, flash flooding may occur.
Speaking Tuesday afternoon, Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson urged citizens to follow the advice of the Department of Emergency Services in this situation and avoid roads where flooding is a common problem in heavy rain. Richardson also advised citizens to avoid standing water.
Charles County Government spokeswoman Crystal Hunt offered the same advice, and urged citizens to stay abreast of weather developments. Hunt said citizens can monitor storm updates through the county’s website and Facebook page, and by tuning into CCGTV on Verizon Channel 10 or Comcast Channel 95.
