Calvert County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith announced in a press release this morning his intention to resign from the position effective this August.
According to the press release from the superintendent’s office, Smith “has chosen to exercise a clause in his contract that allows him to leave his position upon providing advance notice to the [Calvert County] Board” of Education.
An interim superintendent will be named, but a time frame for when that individual will be selected was not indicated in the release. The board will commence a permanent replacement for Smith, according to the release.
Smith has served as superintendent for seven years.
According to the press release, Smith indicated a need for more time in his life as he and his wife, Gayle, recently welcomed their first grandchild May 13.
